Hi everyone,
I'm having issues with a LiIon charger 4056 board.
I replaced the programming resistor with a 1.5k to set the current to 0.8A
well, the thing starts below 0.9A but after a short while it jumps to 1.6A (this is current drawn).
I disconnect the board and let it cool down and upon re-connection it does the same again.
A similar board with a current limit of 450mA works fine but it would take days to charge this 5Ah battery
The board has the bottom pads taped with kapton and there’s thermal compound between the board and the heatsink.
What's going on?
I suspect there's something wrong with the charger module. But it would be interesting to know what current is flowing to the battery when the module is drawing 1.6A. Is it all going to the battery, or is it just generating extra heat in the TP4056 chip?
Well, I guess theortically it's possible the USB module is off, but I think that's unlikely.
Can you show a picture of the replaced programming resistor? This could happen if the replacement resistor is 150R instead of 1.5K.
It would be interesting indeed to measure where the current goes. But I’m not taking chances with LiIon “firestarters”
I measured the resistor and it is 1.499k, one of those unmarked 1mmx.5mm SMDs
I have just switched to a TP5000 board that seems to behave better and it barely heats up at 0.9A
