I have pulled out the 40 of 8x8 RGB LED Matrix from the LED sign (AMS Alpha 4160C) The LED Matrix's part number is 5016-8101. It contains 24-pins.
I couldn't find the datasheet on this anywhere.
I may have to do the hard way... reverse engineering the pcb board that they sat on...
Does anyone have any idea of the pinouts? thanks!
5016-8101 is the part number for the whole item not the 8x8
there are only two types of 8x8
You will either have 24 pins for R, G, B anode and 8 common cathodes them, or 24 pins for R, G, B and 8 common anodes for them.
Here's the pinout for a common anode version, so now you know what kind of thing you can expect to buzz out.
If yours has 24 pins, then it is 2-color only. Likely Red and Green, same idea as the RGB tho. Anodes for 2 LEDs with common cathode. Or cathodes for 2 LED and common anode.

Good point. Best referred to as a "RGY".
So if you have displays mounted on a PCB, why on earth would you take them off it?
