Adafruit PN532 RFID/NFC Breakout and Shield

I just purchase Adafruit PN532 RFID/NFC Breakout and Shield,

and I have some question regarding the tutorial linked below:
https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-pn5 ... c/overview

What is the difference between breakout wiring and shield wiring in the tutorial?
and If I use the shield I can connect it directly to arduino uno and there is no need for the level shifter IC 4050 ?

Waiting for your reply
Thank you

well the breakout lets you install the receiver separately from the Arduino board. Just hook up wires (and yes you need the 4050 level shifter chip and power wire should be connected to the 3.3v pin on the Arduino)

this might be convenient if you want the receiver near a door and have the arduino somewhere else for example. this is a pretty thin board if you don't put the pins and solder the jumpers.

the shield lets you get rid of all the cables so it's easier to play with - no level shifter needed either

but then it's a bit more bulky to integrate

Looks smaller than the Arduino, breadboard, and breakout board combo...

unless you hide all that away and only keep the breakout visible.... (that being said nothing prevents you from running wires as well to the shield)
