signal 0% ??

The WiFi status shows that the Yun is acting as a master, broadcasting its own wireless network named "Arduino Yun-B4218AF020F5"

It is not connected to your home network. It's a little tough to follow what you are saying, but it sounds like you initially connected to your Yun, and set it up to connect to your home network. But apparently something went wrong with its connection attempt: you gave it the wrong password, it was out of range, or something like that.

There is a safety feature in the software to help prevent having an un-reachable Yun if a mistake is made connecting it to a wireless network: after booting, if it was unable to connect to the configured network, it resets itself back to being the master, just like it was when first set up.

The Yun is now acting as a network master. You need to disconnect your computer from your home network, connect to the Yun's network, and try again.

this output with Yun-MAC connected?

confusing question:

  • using Home router = making homenetwork
  • adding Yun-MAC to this network = a task need to be done
thus, PC talk to router+internet and to Yun-MAC at the same time

Q: this task required or not to use Yun in its internet connection activity

Now, Yun+PC in Yun-MAC server rule, working

  • then how to make Yun data pass to home router = put Yun on home router network

  • thus we can access Yun URL and get data from Yun

that the part trying to figure its proper use

thank you for your help

yes my expression poor, I did/could not even understand what I said,
I am describing the process I went through, (note that we do not have the common sense of the wifi operation, we know little, compared to what supposed we should know, that the fact)

when we finish restart-configure step and click on that bar after naming the config MyYun

it asks to connect to home router, we do that and we lost the Yun connection under Yun-MAC server icon, now under home router icon

when the progress bar finish we assume now we have MyYun1 name and placed on the router homenetwork with new pass word not arduino

the green screen comes (we now under router wifi to pc)
it asks to wait or click here , we do that , then
we expect now Yun to show up as webpage automatically with URL address using the
new name MyYun1.local/ or I can instead place the IP address

the can't display error msg appears. means Yun not present on the network to connect

running the IE serial monitor and Serialwifistatus give the 0% connect,

means when we connected PC + router = Yun went 0% communication

if we click back Yun-MAC network icon
we connect PC + Yun = xx% communication , that expected

the next step to config page, we did
myyu1 name + password + selected home router name for network to join the myyun1 and used password of the router network thus, Yun knows this password

restart and configure bar progress and we should change network connection to
home router name, we do, then we wait to finish, and then
we expect that the myyun1.local to connect from PC to Yun as before
because the config did attach Yun to my router, then

router + pc + Yun connected together = IP address on PC browser, will talk to the Yun through the router wifi

it does not?? that the problem
when we run serial monitor of the seriawifistatus program
we get 0%
serial monitor still running displaying its message 0%
switch back to router icon network and connect Yun drops out of the connection
we immediately see Yun output change to xx% value of connection

the loop pc + router + Yun or Pc+Yun under active router connection there no signal 0%

Q: That the way it suppose to be or not?

when/how do we get Yun talking sending data like status, to router and then PC ?

Q: if we do not do this 3 devices loop, then how to connect PC to internet and receive data from Yun if not going to the router?

I hope made the problem clear, because the steps can confuse in sequence

thanks again

master mode + 0% :

I used Yunserialmonitor program
entered:
iwconfig
ifconfig
/usr/bin/pretty-wifi-info.lua ( the wifistatus command I can do here now)
get o% and master mode
under PC+router
then Yun not on the local network connection
still have Yun-MAC available

then: trying again to perform config still the same results,
how to change the mode if the config does not change it

making sure the information given to config correct !!!!

elwolv:
(note that we do not have the common sense of the wifi operation, we know little, compared to what supposed we should know, that the fact)

Don't feel bad or be ashamed about that. Everybody started out knowing nothing and had to learn for themselves. We all have to start somewhere!

I'm still having trouble figuring out the details, but I think I understand the general issue:

  • You are able to access the Yun when it is acting as a master.
  • You then set it up to connect to your home network.
  • You then connect your computer to your home network.
  • You try to access the Yun through your home network, but it is not there.
  • You look at the WiFi status, and it once again shows it is a master.
What is happening is that something is going wrong when the Yun tries to connect to your home network. It tries to use the settings you gave it, but cannot connect properly. When this happens, the Yun resets back to master mode so that you have another chance to repeat the whole process.

The question is why can't it connect? There could be many reasons:

  • Maybe you didn't enter the home network password properly when you configured it (it must match exactly: close enough is not good enough - capitalization, spacing, punctuation, etc. must be exactly correct
  • Maybe you ent)ered the security information incorrectly
  • The home network might be using a security mode the Yun doesn't understand
  • The home network might be using a WiFi channel that the Yun can't access (from the factory, the Yun is set up to use the set of channels allowed in the United States, while other countries allow the use of more channels.)
  • The home network might have a MAC filter set up to only allow certain units to connect, in which case you must add the Yun's MAC address to the allowed list.
  • The home network might have a limit as to how many nodes can connect, and the Yun is one too many
  • Or there could be other reasons...

This is going to be a difficult one to diagnose remotely. Hopefully someone will be along soon to give some more suggestions. (Jesse has more networking experience, and a good canned answer with some connectivity tips, maybe he'll respond soon.)

Connect ethernet cable between router and Yun, get both ip address of Ethernet and WiFi.

How to get ip address of Yun

Setup Yun as client mode of router.

Setup STA for managed (client) mode

Plan B:

if you have laptop or PC with WiFi adapter:

When first time power your Arduino Yún or you reset its network configuration, it has the ability to act as an Access Point; thus, it will create a WiFi network called ArduinoYun-.
In this way you can connect your computer to that network.

Setup Yun as client mode of router.

Setup STA for managed (client) mode

thank you

here the results
note the !/bin/sh not found
and the repeating message at Linux prompt

fresh start:
only router icon present,
the Yun-MAC icon gone
because we tried to connect in client mode

when we click restart and configure the Yun-MAC icon disappear from active network lis

to restart again: press wlan reset > 30 sec, reset to factory setup

thus we at fresh start:
the only way to bring back the Yun-Mac icon to active list, by downloading the
"YunSerial Terminal" program and when executed it brings the Yun network back (we know this when wifi state teste has master mode.

now try to talk to Linux:
click on Yun network icon and connect PC to Yun now direct wifi, we can only use arduino.local address ,
under this condition the only way to connect to linux by putty
not SSH, the PuTTY vanish when opened

serial connection does works on PuTTY
and we get root@arduino:/# then we type

uci export > /root/sta.conf

then
#!/bin/sh --> !/bin/ash !/bin/sh not found

root@Arduino:/# uci export > /root/sta.conf
root@Arduino:/# !/bin/sh
/bin/ash: !/bin/sh: not found

then
root@Arduino:/# uci export > /root/sta.conf
root@Arduino:/# !/bin/sh
/bin/ash: !/bin/sh: not found

root@Arduino:/# wifi down; wifi up

root@Arduino:/#

now the browser still has the configure page, we go back to configure and see the results
PuTTY On serial line now, and shows the restart of Linux
we get Linux restart screens until we get press key

when we press the enter key at prompt we get

and keep rpeating that dialog with some pause between

my network shows connected back to router, but Yun-MAC icon disappear as usual

I have the SD installed with the version downloaded
before that the upgrade re-flash done

does that this a firmware corrupt, this the 2nd board to not functions

The WiFi configuration will be reset and the Yún will start its own wiFi network Arduino Yún-XXXXXXXXXXXX. Any other modification/configuration will be retained. "

Q: what the frequency of the Yun wifi 2.4 or 5.0 or has double frequency?

Did you try the Plan A?

Connect ethernet cable between router and Yun, get both ip address of Ethernet and WiFi.

What is your Yun Ethernet Ip address?

elwolv:
Q: what the frequency of the Yun wifi 2.4 or 5.0 or has double frequency?

The heart of Yun is AR9331:

sonnyyu:
FYI;-

The heart of Yún is CPU - AR9331, here is the market position of it.

AR9331 (MIPS 24k@400MHz, 1x1:1, 150Mbs/2.4GHz, PHY/100Mbs)

AR9341 (MIPS 74Kc@500Mhz, 2x2:2, 300Mbs/2.4GHz, PHY/100Mbs)

AR9344 (MIPS 74Kc@600MHz, 2x2:2, 300Mbs/2.4GHz, 450Mbs/5GHz, PHY/1Gbs)

QCA9558 (MIPS 74Kc@720MHz, 3x3, 450Mbs/2.4GHz, 1300Mbs/5GHz, PHY/1Gbs)

It is already on bottom of the food chain.

No 5 Ghz support at Yun!

thank you all

it seems the board wifi/sw has problems
this the 2nd board to not functions

tried other computers still the same problem

will move on to different board, like Dragino and try again.

we should close this thread

hello

we will not give up on Yun, we need to use such great model!!!
will get new board, for Arduino

we learned a lot during this period!!!

yes we tried plan A = Ethernet cable
it did take the router IP address 192-168.240.1

will perform 2 paths:

no update

instruction (1) "make sure port 5353 is not being blocked by a firewall." how to check on that?

answer (1)

instruction (2) when board arrive it should turn on and capable of connecting to IDE and shows its Yun-MAC name as a Port in tool-ports, this never happen

answer (2)

a- if not then the problem in the router
b- we need to find IP address first, No, because this step has nothing to do with IP but uses the MAC address Yun-MAC

instruction (3) "The Yún has the ability to act as an Access Point, but it can also connect to an existing network."

the AP-router/server function exist and we find Yun-MAC icon in network manager list
after we turn power,

answer-3: yes we find that and reset by (>5 secnd , <30 second reset) does that also

we should find IDE Yun-MAC under Ports (**that step does not happen at all in previous trials)

  • we should find Yun-MAC under network active list (but not connected)

*********Thus Power on do nothing, should shows the 2 Yun-MAC address ***********

Q: if this do nothing not correct, then what the correct sequence to get IDE-Ports Yun-MAC address, since only COMxx(Arduino Yun) appears for the USB-CDC-VCP connection

last resort Step:

before that check to see if IP address acquired
the assumption, the turn power on, will allow Yun to communicate and acquire IP address form the router, but this not true and the above assumption wrong" why"
because Yun has AP-mode in power on and will not acquire a client IP address from home router
and it will not show any thing on IDE ports except the USB-CDC-VCP port COMxx

Q: why we need to re number the port like COM13 to COMx below 10 like COM7? why 13 not a good number?

then: the following sequence should be the correct one for what to do:

1- built in IP 192-168.240.1 will allow us in AP-mode, at power-on time,
to ne used with PC browser to access the config page

Instruction (4): that where the same "make sure" in any writing, how to make sure?

a- this Yun-MAC does appears in network list
we can PC-browser type 192.168.240.1 and we can get the webpage from Yun

"When you first power on the Yún, it will create a WiFi network called ArduinoYun-XXXXXXXXXXXX. Connect your computer to this network."

Do we have correct interpretation: Yun-AP-mode on start up, PC can connect with no problem:

b- this webpage log in -> configure will show IP address
Q: what the correct address to appear now 192.168.240.1 or the one form our home-router
192.168.1.xx (0-20 in our home router setup for wireless). before we did shows arduino x.240.1 address

Answer 4-b: ?????????? Assume will be exact 192.168.240.1 because we never acquired a home router IP automatically

Once you've obtained an IP address, open a web browser, and enter http://arduino.local or 192.168.240.1 in the address bar. After a few moments, a web page will appear asking for a password. Enter "arduino" and click the Log In button. "

This step Yun in AP-mode and we want to convert to client-mode and acquire an IP address form our home router

that the purpose of the config and restart: convert the Yun from master - AP - mode to client mode

instruction (5) "You can now join the network you assigned to the Yún."

this after restart - configure bar and we get the page with " click here "

that where it fails, that has to be from the home router

Last resort:
fuzzy on details when done before with Ethernet cable connected

check the router wireless table, that where we insert names of each wifi in the home-router domain and list them to have constant IP address

IP-name-MAC address and add this to the table

the following the last Notes I have: and shut down to get third new board:

instructions:
"If you make a note of the MAC address, then you can see it in the list of attached devices on your router and the IP that is assigned to it."

"Once you know the MAC address, you can then reserve an IP in your router, so every time you connect, your router will issue it with the same IP address."

download wifistatus program form bridge
open the serial monitor,

this the current output the router name comes in the serial com as client, which represent the Yun as the router and the router PC connection as client?

Current WiFi configuration
SSID: Implied 2.4G
Mode: Client
Signal: 0%
Encryption method: -
Interface name: wlan0
Active for: 0 minutes
MAC address: B4:21:8A:F0:20:F5
RX/TX: 5/7 KBs

before, this step we did : the output from the serial connection to Yun (means we used Yun serial monitor to access the Linux shell on IDE not on PuTTY SSH, it will not work: log in taken, password frozen do not accept keyborad input, and return access denied and shows ---- #password again

Current WiFi configuration
SSID: Arduino Yun-B4218AF020F5
Mode: Master
Signal: 0%
Encryption method: None
Interface name: wlan0
Active for: 28 minutes
IP address: 192.168.240.1/255.255.255.0
MAC address: B4:21:8A:F0:20:F5
RX/TX: 144/151 KBs

If all above doesn't work, try ssh to the yun shield (means Dragino) and run
/etc/init.d/avahi-daemon restart

This will broadcast the Arduino service and Arduino IDE should get it.

we did similar restart and still did not get any results

the question this problem Linux or PC or Router?

elwolv:
thank you all

it seems the board wifi/sw has problems
this the 2nd board to not functions

tried other computers still the same problem

will move on to different board, like Dragino and try again.

I like your attitude! When I found AR9331 not works, I changed to AR9341, AR9344, QCA9558...

Your thread is too fast, You need allow rest of us crawl first.

one crawl step each time.

Connect ethernet cable between router and Yun, get both ip address of Ethernet and WiFi.

How to get ip address of Yun

List ip address of Ethernet here please.

I'm sorry, but you have so much going on in your post: it covers so many topics, and keeps jumping back and forth between them, that it's impossible to figure out what you're trying to do, and what you're asking. It seems like you're trying to do everything at once. It seems like you are trying to:

  • Get your Yun to connect to your home WiFi network
  • Connect your Yun to your Ethernet network
  • Connect your Yun to your computer with the USB serial cable
  • And while all of this is happening, try to connect to the Yun using the IDE's port menu

You can't do all of this at once: pick a logical progression, and get one step working before you move on to the next. Certain things must be done in order: for example, don't even bother trying to get the Yun's network connection to show up in the IDE until you have the network connection working properly. If you are trying to access the Yun from the IDE using the WiFi network, and the Yun is not connected to the WiFi network, then the IDE will never have a chance to see it - trying to get it to connect in this case is futile.

Take a step back, take a deep breath, and take it in small steps. DO NOT try to move onto the next step until the previous step is working.

This seems like a logical progression to me, as it starts with the easier connections first, and uses that connection to help make the next connection work:

1: Forget about the network at first. Use a USB cable to connect the microUSB port on the Yun to your computer:

  • Connect the Yun to your computer using the microUSB port
  • Launch the Arduino IDE
  • On the Tools | Board menu, select "Arduino Yun"
  • On the Tools | Port menu, select the serial port that corresponds to the Yun
  • On the Examples | 01.Basics menu, select the "Blink" sketch.
  • Upload that to the Yun. Does it blink the LED? If so, you've got that much working. If not, stop here and don't go on until you get it working.

2:Start up the YunSerialTerminal, which will be helpful for the remaining setup tasks:

  • On the Examples | Bridge menu, select the "YunSerialTermina" sketch.
  • Upload that to the Yun
  • Open the Serial Monitor
  • Press the "Yun RST" button (near the Yun's LEDs.) You should see lots of text scroll by as the Linux side boots.
  • Wait until Linux fully boots (white LED on Yun lights up.)

3: With the YunSerialTerminal active and connected to the Serial Monitor, establish an Ethernet connection:

  • Plug in an Ethernet cable from the Yun to your router
  • On the Serial Monitor, you should see a line pop up similar to: [  281.380000] eth1: link up (100Mbps/Full duplex)
  • In the text box at the top of the Serial Monitor, type ifconfig then click the "Send" button. You should get a screen of text.
  • Look for the block with "eth1" label, and find the field labeled "inet addr:" (should be at the beginning of the second line.) Note the IP address that follows, this is the Yun's Ethernet port address.
  • Type the Yun's Ethernet port address into the address bar of your computer's web browser.
  • You should get the the Yun's configuration web site.
  • As instructed in the beginning setup tutorials, give your Yun a name and a password, but don't worry about the WiFi yet. Click the "Configure and Restart" button
  • Wait for the Yun to restart (you can see the boot process go by on the Serial Monitor.)
  • When fully booted (white LED is on) enter the Yun's address in the web browser address bar. You should see the configuration pages again.
  • Now, type your Yun's name in the web address bar. For example, if in the previous steps, you named your Yun "MyYun" then type "myyun.local" in the address bar. You should see the configuration pages reload. If you do not, then you need to resolve the naming issue: if you have a Windows PC, you may need to install Apple's Bonjour Print Services (this should be automatically installed if you installed Apple's QuickTime or iTunes.) Bonjour is not a standard part of Windows. It is a standard part of MacOS and iOS, you will need to install something like Avahi for Linux, and as far as I know using the Yun's name is not possible with Android - you will always have to use the address.
  • At this point, you should have the serial connection and the Ethernet working. You may or may not be able to access your Yun by name, but should be able to access it using the IP address. Don't move on until you have this working.

4:Now, it's finally time to try the WiFi.

  • With the Ethernet and serial ports connected, use your web browser to access the Yun, using either the Ethernet IP address, or the Yun's name.
  • Click the "CONFIGURE" button
  • Under "WIRELESS PARAMETERS" make sure "CONFIGURE A WIRELESS NETWORK" is checked
  • In the "DETECTED WIRELESS NETWORKS" drop down list, select your wireless network's name. If it doesn't appear (because it doesn't broadcast its name, enter the name (exact spelling) in the WIRELESS NAME box.
  • Make sure the "SECURITY" selection is correct
  • Under "PASSWORD" enter your wireless network password - EXACT spelling, capitalization, and punctuation is critical - make sure it's exactly correct with no added or missing characters!
  • Click the "Configure and Restart" button.
  • Watch the boot messages go by, and wait for the Yun to be fully booted
  • Towards the end of the boot process, look for some lines that start with "wlan0:" and it should indicate that it is authenticated, and then associated. If not, please copy and post the lines from the Serial Monitor, starting with the lines that have "cfg80211:" and continuing through the end of the list.
