Hello, not sure if it is the proper group. But I have made swap for my engine and end up with an engine that uses CAN.
The speed passes through the can and read values from wheel speed sensor which I was not able to keep. I preserved my current gearbox which initially fed in the speed tachometer through a gear signal. Is there a way to hack the speed signal and have in fed through the gearbox speed input instead? I'm a bit getting started to Arduino, but was suggested this can easily be done with a Arduino Nano and MPC 2515
That should work but I do not know your skill set or how well you can program so initially I would say it would be a difficult process.
If you continue use Gary Fowler's mcp-can library it is good and comes with both send and receive modules. Build both and get them talking to each other first. I use it with the Nano, UNO and the WeMos R1D1.
You must have two or more units on the CAN bus because of the IFR (In Frame Response) part of the protocol.
Note: I do not recommend putting the Arduino or similar product in a vehicle that will be operated on the road. My recommendation is to walk away from this while you are still alive!
I don’t think there especially a problem using Arduino type technology BUT … can engine control systems have powerful processors and do many tasks .
You’d need to design a PCB to do the job - you can’t have a UNO with wires hanging off it , you need automotive standard bits ..
You’d be better off getting the loom and parts that go with your engine and adapting the wiring to suit .
Or dump the engine control and start over with a non can aftermarket ECU
!
This is my Mondeo 2.0 powered Ford Anglia - normally runs with an ECU , but here with carburettors and an ignition only controller ( Megajolt )
