Annoyance: Are you sure you want to mark messages as read?

Since "Unread posts" doesn't work as expected, I have opened several pages with sections of interest and periodically refresh. If no topic/replies of interest, click on "Mark Read".

Anyway, forum engine require to confirm that: "Are you sure you want to mark messages as read?"

Of course I'm sure. This is not post or account deletion. Quite annoying.

Hi again.

Yes this is one of many foibles and minor gripes with the forum software.
Getting changes in the forum is like finding unicorn droppings in your flower bed.

I like that reminder - just in case I clicked the wrong thing by accident.

After years of using the forum similar to how you describe, I switched to following the forum exclusively via email. I subscribed to email notifications of new topics in the forum boards of interest to me. When I get an email notification of a topic I'm interested in, I subscribe to that topic so that I will get emails whenever anyone replies. I find this is a huge improvement over browsing the forum. I don't have to repeatedly see topics that I am not interested in, but keep getting bumped to the top of the forum listings on every reply. I can set up email filters to automatically reject posts I'm not interested in, or categorize them into folders.

The only thing you might not like is that all the topics are lumped together in your inbox, rather than being separated by subject into the forum boards. This doesn't bother me at all. And anyway, half the time people post to the wrong board so the forum boards are not as useful for categorization as they might be.
