I built a macropad and have been using for about a year now but wanted to slim it down an decided to go down the PCB route.
I'm using Kicad, which is a first, so that was a learning curve as ordered wrong component size on first PCB.
The second PCB (see schematic) I've built using fresh components and at first my laptop saw the PCB and then said there was an issue, so could not see in the Arduino IDE. I had not put the USB on very well, so once I sorted that out, I noticed a floating ground on C3, so fixed that and now nothing works. The power LED is lit but that's it.
Looking at my schematic, can anyone notice any issues?
I can't see any soldering issues but I can't see under the IC. The crystal is a new one to me, from China. Wonder if that could be an isse but wouldn't have thought so.
The bootloader is already installed
did you upload a bootloader or are you programming through ICSP?
can you share the actual routing and a good quality picture from both sides?
how is the GND plane?
Is the cristal really close to the pins?
Quality 5V in?
Here they are. C3 capacitor is not connected to ground but I fixed that with a bodge wire but can't see any issues. I'm thinking either the oscillator or the IC, as I can't see below.
The diode does have a volt drop, so not sure if that is undersupplied but the PC did recognise a USB device at first, although it does not. Maybe I disturbed something else when fixing the USB but I think there must be other issues. No idea currently
I think the ceramic resonators often have the load capacitors built-in. They have a third terminal for Ground. The schematic shows 'Y1' as including two capacitors.
