I wish to use ANPR to operate a gate.
I am aware of some experimentation using beaglebone and PI but cannot see anything for arduino.
I was wondering if any of the larger arduinos may be capable of this.

I doubt it, the sell cameras that work with an arduino but their resolution is not enough.... not to mention the memory constraints
I think the biggest issue getting a high res camera that talk to the arduino...

Anyone who wants to break in just has to a fake plate on his car. You could probably mock one up in 10 minutes with some self-adhesive numbers.

All the petrol stations around here explain it clearly.
The camera will be dedicated for this task and the plate will almost fill the screen
Thy will be still not moving video..
I am wondering in this case if a simple OCR algorithm (optical character recognition) may work.
Existing system uses Arduino and card access.
Security is not a big issue , just want to stop travellers/commuters from using the car park.
Building has manned security.
Main disadvantage is that card access slows things down during commuter times .
