Any cheap and good recommended distance sensors?

Is there any good distance sensor that is

  1. Small size
  2. Act as both a transmitter and receiver
  3. Arduino Compatible
  4. Cheap
  5. Distance Range around 2 to 5 cm

So far I only got

  1. HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor

  2. MCUSD16A40S12RO

Have a search for Ambient Light Sensor & Proximity Sensor (ALS+PS). They are very small, used in mobile phones. You want the PS functionality. There are several variants available. I've used them to detect the presence, or lack of, of an object. Having said all that, I don't think they are designed to actually "measure" distance, but you might be able to infer it based on the amount of IR picked up by the built-in receiver, but I don't know how how reliable/repeatable this would be.

Ok thank you!

And there is LIDAR like the TFMini or TFMiniPro.

I used a TFMini on my hexapod to scan the house to make an image. I switched the hexapod to using a TFMiniP, works great. I put the TFmini on the back of my wife's bike where it scans how far away a car is, behind her, and creates differing light patterns as the car gets closer; works great.

And then there is a AMG883 IR Thermal Camera, haven't used it yet, awaiting its arrival. Once I figure out one, I plan on using 2, placed on the Hexapod and see what kind of things I can learn.

not for 2-5cm...

Actually, if the TFMini is set back from the object to be detected by, say a 5cm setback, and when something is 1cm away from the setback point... Actually works.

Well, that's impressive!

What do you think of the robot vacuum cleaner's distance sensors? https://aspiradorasinteligentes.com/
