Arduino 1.8.10. Mac crashes when uploading sketch OSX Yosemite

Using essentially an Arduino Uno clone. On Macbook Pro 2015 running OSX Yosemite 10.105. I am a first year college student using Arduino for lab. The first time I used it, it crashed only once, but now Arduino crashes every time I upload the sketch.

I can open the Arduino application, find the serial port fine, and verify the code but as soon as I upload the sketch, the system will freeze up and my mac will crash/restart.

I have already tried using different arduinos and USB cables.
I also tried using older versions of Arduino
I have also already downloaded the CH340 Driver to locate the serial port using

"essentially an uno"?

What serial interface chip (acting on the theory that it's related to the serial drivers). You say you've tried the solutions for CH340G, but have not confirmed that that is what your board uses (we get a lot of people blindly applying the CH340G drivers/fixes without knowing whether their board has one).

If it's an uno clone, look at the markings on the black chip near the USB connector. Typically will by mega16u2, CH340G or CP2102/CP2104

On the chip across from the USB connector it says "CH340C". It is a "Redboard" (on the second link in the original post it says to download the CH340 driver) and instructions say to select the arduino uno as the board when writing up the sketch.

Hope that clarifies what i mean by "essentially an uno".

I have the same issue running the same version of Mac OS X! I've installed the CH340 driver two days ago and got two crashes today running Arduino 1.8.10. It is not an application freezing, it is a complete OS crash! Any other version of driver to try or known fixes!
