I previously used 3 nema motors with arduino CNC shield + A 4988 and they were turning correctly. From lack of torque, I read it was better to go for DRV8825 drivers.
I have changed to arduino CNC shield + DRV8825. Power is 12V 2amp supply but the stepper motors do not turn.
For info, I've looked at other posts but could not find the correct answer.
It´s worth noting though, that when replacing an A4988 driver with an DRV8825 it is
very important to make sure the orientation of the driver is correct.
Their potentiometers are at different locations,
on the A4988 it’s below the chip, and on the DRV8825 is above the chip,
and that can sometimes cause confusion and the driver can be easily placed
on the wrong side.
The torque does not increase "automatically" when you change from A4988 to DRV8825. Torque is mainly a matter of the stepper itself and the current flowing. If your stepper needs some more current then the A4988 can provide, the DRV8825 may be an alternative. But the difference between both regarding the current they can provide is not very big.
