Hi guys!
I'm trying to drive my stepper motor NEMA17 model# 17HS1538 using L298N. It needs 1.65A per phase.
My motor doesn't rotate, it just vibrate and the driver gets very hot.
Everything is hooked up properly as per instruction to use L298N with bipolar stepper motor.
Can anyone help me please?
The motor is 17HS1538, it's data sheet is available on searching in Google, it's written 1.65A per though.
L298 is a really crappy motor driver by today's standards and even worse stepper driver. It will not handle the 1.6A coil current of your stepper. The best thing to do with the L298 is to take it out your front door and throw it as far as you can. Then go back inside and order a stepper driver appropriate for the stepper. A DRV8825 would be a good choice. Make sure that you follow the instructions on setting coil current. It is an absolutely necessary step.
You will need a power supply of at least 8V for the DRV8825. 12V and up to the limit of the driver will be better.
You should make helping you as easy as possible. Making us search for a data sheet is not making it easy.
On both boards, setting current limit is necessary. Be aware that the current sense resistors on the A4988 are not all the same. One must confirm the values of the resistors on your modules so that a correct value can be used in the formula to calculate the proper Vref to set.
