Arduino IR remote using Sen 00241 and Ken Sheriffs blog

Looking for help on how to set up the circuit for IR remote. I must say that i am a noob in Arduino world and trying to create an IR remote using IR library from Ken Sheriff

Have purchased emitter and detector : Sen 00241 from Sparkfun.

Can any one please tell me how to set up the circuit for my detector? I have connected one pin to pin 11 as per code for IR receieve, these are my doubts

  1. There are two ends short and long, which one should connect to Pin11?
  2. Do i need some resistors also?
  3. How to connect power ?

I have attached a picture of my IR Detector, any help on this is highly appreciated.

Hello, these are almost all the same.. see: http://arduino-direct.com/sunshop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=210

Links to pinout etc....

Can any one explain me in terms of pin, i am sorry for my lack of understanding on this part.

the receiver works on 11 and the led works on 3, i know this stuff has poor documentation, im having the same issue with a usb lib. anyway i made a sweet IR copy tool, check it out here it has pics and all of the project on a bread board and on my own little arduino shield.

@Emada : My IR Receiver only has two pins, do you have any idea how to connect ground?

nope, you only have two leads so switch them around till you find the right setup.

Infrared Emitters and Detectors - SEN-00241 - SparkFun Electronics is not an IR receiver of the type that is used with a remote control library. You need a three pin receiver with V+, GND, and signal lines, such as IR Receiver Diode - TSOP38238 - SEN-10266 - SparkFun Electronics.

@Chagrin : I think you are correct, i have tried all combinations and now i realize sen 00241 is probably not the right choice.

hy guys i have done a complete video tatorial on the arduino ir remote with all the hexadecimal coding and converting a tv remote to any remote in my youtube channel the link is given by ...."""" - YouTube """
