Some time ago we purchased an Arduino mega2560 R3.I am new to it.It is not getting recognized a sa valid USB device but an "unknown device".I initially thought it uses the FTDI drivers and installed them but when I saw its schematic I came to know that it uses an Atmega16u2 as the USB to serial chip.In another system the board was getting detected properly but not in my new system. Please tell me what to do.
I installed the arduino IDE instead of using the zip and then the problem got solved.
I have the same problem with a Ramps1.4 Classic board. The USB port works fine on my Windows 7 machine but on both of my Windows XP computers, no go. Windows cannot find the driver. Previously I used a Panucatt X3 and X1 board which needs FTDI drivers to be installed separately. No problem with those on any computer. I tried all the various solutions put forward on this and other forums, but cannot get the port to recognize. A lot of other people seem to have this problem. With some it works with XP but not 7 and with others the other way around. Why is this so fickle? Is there an easy solution?
