Arduino Research

Hey guys! I'm researching the popularity of Arduino/Robotics for a new business idea. I'll be making cool kits, like wind turbines, based on these technologies.
Everyone who will answer the question below and give an advice for startup gets a heart!

  • If you see on the market a techno kit (let it be a wind turbine that will turn on LED), it will cost around 40 dollars. Will you buy it or recommend to your friends?

I like this DIY tutorial (one of many on line), which shows how to make an LED wind turbine out of a paper cup and other discarded materials.

I can do the same thing with a solar cell and a super cap and it will work when the sun goes down. I won't do anything.

Because I don't think that it represents value for money and will be a very short lived project with not much prospect of expanding it once the user has got over the initial excitement of it working

In contrast, even the humble Blink example costs nothing and needs no extra hardware but lends itself to experimentation such as changing the blink period, blinking 2 LEDs alternately, implementing asymmetric blinking, random blink periods, Morse code output etc etc

I would like to make kits for beginners. So they can do a car themselves, using code, motor drivers and so on.

That's an admirable goal but the reality is that consumer products typically have very low margins, so be prepared to make tiny amounts of money on each one. Honestly, I think your best bet, instead of designing and manufacturing this yourself, would be to find a low cost off the shelf device and figure out a way to add value to it. Perhaps a booklet of instructions and projects for a programmable robot or similar?

e.g., at one time I used to sell 12VDC timers that I bought cheap on AliExpress. They came without any documentation, or very badly translated instructions. My "value add" was clear English instructions on how to set them up and I could resell at a reasonable price by just providing that.

Personally, I like experimenting with electronics and it is ma passion, I want to spread it.
I obviously open for your advice because I know how it is easy to stay in comfort zone, I will try to bring in life every good suggestion
