Arduino to open lights and PowerPoint

Any past experience of someone that used Arduino to open lights and in parallel move forward images in a screen or PowerPoint presentation?

General methods exist for interfacing a PC (personal computer) to an Arduino over the serial port. There are other methods also.
In principle, you would design commands which you would issue from the Arduino. A purpose made script on the PC would receive those commands, interpret them and perform the actions with the application.
By "open lights" do you simply mean switching on/off electrical lights under the control of an Arduino ?

Late to the party (I usually don't hang around in this area of the forum).

You can use an Arduino that supports HID functionality like a Leonardo, Micro or a SparkFun ProMicro (there are others). The can act like a keyboard so you can let it 'type' commands.
