Arduino UNO rev3, dead?

Hi, all

I have a problem with one Arduino UNO rev3 (I have another one, and it works fine).

When I try to upload any example, it returns me these errors:

  • "avrdude stk500_getsync() not in sync resp=0x00" (WinXP, Arduino IDE 1.0)
  • "avrdude stk500_recv() programmer is not responding" (Debian, Arduino IDE 1.0)

The Led 13 doesn't blink when I plug USB cable, it's always ON, like the ON led.

I followed the steps on Troubleshooting, and doesn't work. The loop-back test doesn't work either.

I followed the steps on http://arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/ArduinoISP and http://www.3guys1laser.com/blog-burn-bootloader-blank-atmega328atmega328p-arduino-uno, Installing an Arduino Bootloader - SparkFun Learn, and it still doesn't work.

I have wrote in spanish (I'm from Spain) the same topic http://arduino.cc/forum/index.php/topic,105369.0.html

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Same problem !! also from Spain...

Mira en este subject: Arduino UNO rev3 connection problems, hay mas posts, pero tampoco lo resuelven

Hi all,

If loopback test fails, it means that Arduino board is dead?

Thanks.

If the loopback test fails, its a sign that the USB/Serial adapter chip is not working.
The Atmega328 itself may still be okay.

Thanks CrossRoads,

Is there any solution? Maybe replace the USB adapter chip?

Reflashing the USB adapter chip may solve the problem...

Hi Coding Badly,

I try to reflashing the USB adapter chip, but it fails.

When I bridge the reset pin with the ground pin, nothing happens. (I try with another Arduino and it enters in dfu mode).

I suppose the Arduino board is dead definitely, am I right?

Thanks.

"Maybe replace the USB adapter chip? "
That's the little tiny chip, about 1/2 a pinky fingernail size. Very hard to replace without proper equipment.
If the chip is interfering with the D0/D1 pins, you could use an external USB/Serial device (such as FTDI Basic) and download to the board that way.
Does the uC work? Can you remove it and test it separately from the board?
