As I go more and more into the world of Arduino,
I hear more and more about Avrdude, apparently a command-line interface for programming AVRs.
Where does the name come from?
Unlike other electronics terms, Avrdude sounds really informal.
it almost sounds like a cartoon character!
Is it just AVR + dude?
Programs get named by the guy who wrote them, and when the program is free software, there's a particular potential for silly names.
I mean, hell, even serious professional software can end up with silly names sometimes. For example, we have a programming language, widely used in serious business applications, named "python" (I understand that was a homage to monty python)...
