Button activation with Arduino

Hello,

I'm attempting to activate the buttons on this board using an arduino, and from what I've gathered, the best way to do that is with transistors to basically "jump" the button.

I tested this initially by touching a jumper cable across the circled locations, which seems to have activated the LED's indicating the button has been pressed, however the remote somehow lost it's wireless capabilities (ie I see lights, but it's lost it's ability to transmit information). It's possible it just broke during disassembly, but once I receive another one, is it possible that I bypassed some sort of electrical protection (ie resistor, capacitor, etc.) when jumping this connection? Also, are there any components I should add to the circuit to keep this from happening?

Thanks

As long as you only touched those button terminals and not the LEDs then I don't see how you could have broken it that way. To be safe you can wait to apply power after jumping the button.
