I am using an ATmega328P and want to eliminate a hardware power switch by putting the microcontroller into sleep mode instead of fully shutting it down.
For charging, I plan to use a charging cable with integrated charge management. My LiPo battery has a built-in BMS (Battery Management System), so it already includes protection circuits for overcharge, over-discharge, and short circuits.
I plan to charge the battery directly via the charging cable, without any additional charge IC on my PCB.
My Questions:
Can I safely charge the LiPo battery while the ATmega328P is in sleep mode?
Can I completely eliminate an additional charge IC on my PCB, relying only on the charging cable’s built-in charge management and the BMS of the battery?
I want to ensure that the system remains safe and reliable while keeping the circuit as
simple as possible.
That depends on what you want to happen and what charging system you are using. Post a schematic or if all commercial parts a block diagram with links to technical information on the parts.
The information needed is not there and rather then cause you to damage your equipment I will not comment. However I will suggest you contact those manufacturers and see if it is doable.
