Can't burn bootloader to Arduino Micro

When using an Arduino Uno to burn the bootloader to an arduino micro, even after trying my best to do everything said in other Forum posts I still get the following error:

avrdude: Yikes! Invalid device signature.
Double check connections and try again, or use -F to override
this check.

avrdude done. Thank you.

I can't seem to find any solutions to this problem, and I really don't want to override using -F as I feel like that would be a bad Idea. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks.
