Computer cannot find the Arduino Nano 33 IoT

First post

I got a new Arduino Nano 33 IoT 33 (Nano 33) and connect it tomy computer with USB cable. However, both of Arduino IDE and Arduino create cannot find the board and the LED is On on the board.

My computer does not have the COM port. Does it make the issue? Or there may be something wrong with the cable?

Have you gone to BOARD MANAGER and installed the core for the nano33 ?

That would be the first thing to do.
It will also install the correct driver which will then give you the COM port.

Hi bob, thanks for your reply

I have installed the core for nano 33 but the Port button is still grey in the IDE. I also installed the Plugin and followed the steps of Arduino create. Arduino create on the web also could not find the connected board.

Some basic steps.
Pick those that may apply.

These steps may also save you some unnecessary time and effort in the forum.

  • Always provide as much detail as possible to your issue it may be important.

  • If applicable provide your SKETCH inside CODE TAGS ( </> ) or a CREATE share link.

  • If applicable provide a schematic even if hand drawn.

  • Check you have a COMMON GROUND where required.

  • Where possible use USB 2.0 ports or a USB 2.0 POWERED HUB to rule out USB 3.0 issues.

  • Try other computers where possible.

  • Try other USB leads where possible.

  • You may not have the correct driver installed. CH340/341 or CP2102

  • There may be a problem with the board check your wiring first.

  • Remove any items connected to pins 0 and 1.

  • Ensure you turn off any additional security / antivirus just to test.

  • There may be a problem with the PC try RESTARTING it.

  • You may be selecting the wrong COM port.

  • Avoid cloud/network based installations where possible OR ensure your Network/Cloud software is RUNNING.

  • Clear your browsers CACHE.

  • Close the IDE before using any other serial programs.

  • Preferably install IDE’s as ADMINISTRATOR or your OS equivalent

Performing the above actions may help resolve your problem without further help.

Hi lzh29823 ,

I have no Nano IoT but some part which helps by the nano BLE is a double click on the reset Button, which will force the chip to wait until you flash it.
But I'm not sure if this helps in this case, but it is missing in the list of bob.

Best regards,

Did you install the board cores in the IDE ?

Install cores

Install core 01.png

I had the same problem with my Arduino nano 33 Iot board.

This solved it for me.

Open the Boards Manager

Scroll down to find this board:
“Arduino SAMD Boards (32-bits ARM Cortec -MO+)” Board.
Click the remove button.

Wait for it to be removed.
Then search again for “nano 33 Iot” in the search box.
Install the board’s driver again.

This installs the USB drivers for windows.

Now the “port” link is no longer greyed out in the menu but listed the following
COM19 (Arduino NANO 33 IoT)

Hope this helps someone with the same problem.
