Connection UNO with ESP01

After hard reset of ESP I am receiving messages like this:

Did or did you not connect
GPIO 0 to GND before the hard reset,
And then attempted the upload ?

Yes, I did.

I have grabbed an ESP-01 out of my box for you, and when i press reset it shows me

 ets Jan 8 2013,rst cause:1, boot mode:(3,6)

load 0x40100000, len 1856, room 16

Now when i set the baud to 74880 in the Serial monitor and press Reset while GPIO 0 is connected to GND ( I have a button that connects RST to GND) it shows

 ets Jan 8 2013,rst cause:1, boot mode:(1,6)

then it is ready for upload

So in recap, set the monitor to 74880bps
connect GPIO 0 to GND and hard reset the ESP
this should show

 ets Jan 8 2013,rst cause:1, boot mode:(1,6)

OK, this works. But the upload as before:

a fatal esptool.py error occurred: failed to connect to esp8266: timed out waiting for packet header

Hmmm, So you have the message saying boot mode is (1,6), you have 'generic ESP8266' as a board. That doesn't make sense to me. Can you post a picture of your setup ? I am a little at a loss here, but maybe i see something that is obstructing the process. Although as i said, if the boot mode is correct and you have established communication in both directions (you did type AT in the serial monitor in the previous step and it responded with OK) then i don;t know what else to tell you.

Is that still what you are using or have you switched to using resistors ?

The response was not to AT command but to hard reset. There is no reponse on AT commands at all.

I will check this.

with GPIO 0 not connected to GND. (during a hard reset of course)

At 115200bps and with line-ending set to Both NL & CR, when you type AT in the serial monitor, the ESP should respond with 'OK'
If not then something on the RX line is not working properly.

After replacementy of converter with resistor voltage divider on RX line the upload was successful and LED is blinking as intended. AT commands still without any response.

There was one remark in some discussion whether the pull up's of 10k is not too much from reasons discussed also here.
Anyway, thanky a lot to understand also the inner structure of UNO.

As i told you right from the very beginning

Pullups of 10K are fine, but for a voltage divider i recommend to use lower value resistor like 3x 1K

I mean pull ups inside the converter. I am using 3x 1k.

With a schematic similar to that of post #2 ?

Yes.

Now if you look at this thread, you will find that there are also quite a few inconsistencies and that because of all the too and from within it, it has become 'not the best of tutorials' I had a really good one before, that somehow got removed or changed, then i had a small bit of paste and copy, but somehow i think it might actually be good if i would just create on instructables or something.
Then i can just refer to it in threads and all the steps and pictures and explanation is there in a good overview, and i can deal with any questions about it here on the forum. What do you think ?

And about that, (and that is not really directly at you of course, (more @gfvalvo or @Juraj ) i struggled with doing that initially as well, but now i think the easy way might be to just first upload the standard http OTA upload example, and select the binary through that. No more need for flashtools and everything.

Got it. I remember that. My first intention was to establish basic communication. Thanks to your help it was ssuccessful. I am going to move forward now and deal with WIFi portion.
