Convert USB mouse to serial mouse for DOS

I have built a 486 (DX2-66) gaming PC for fun. Even found a true AT keyboard for it.

One thing that is missing is a 9 pin serial mouse. I've searched for serial mice on eBay and because they are "vintage", they are insanely expensive.

Plus, they are always the ball-type mice and I'd prefer not to use those.

So what I'd like to do is take an UNO (or something similar) and convert one of my USB mice to the 9 pin serial version for DOS. I'm running DOS 6.22 if that helps any.

Whenever I search for schematics and/or code, I always seem to find solutions that want to go the other way (use a 9 pin mouse on my modern machine). Perhaps my searching skills are just terrible.

I would love some help on this. Some schematics would be awesome. I can't imagine this would be terribly difficult to build.

Thanks!

it would appear that all you would need is a USB to PS/2 adapter ( https://www.magnifyingaids.com/PS-2_to_USB_Adapter ) and a USB mouse capable of PS/2 protocol.

Is there a PS2 to Serial DB9 connector?

Is there a PS2 to Serial DB9 connector?

so

usb ---> ps/2 ---> serial mouse

.

Thanks for the links. I may give that a shot.

I forgot to mention that the motherboard does not have a PS/2 connector. The only connector it has is an AT keyboard. All other connectors are added via ISA cards.

Think old-school. :slight_smile:
