It's quite cold down here in Victoria too....No snow though.

Yes, well it’s odd, these are huge animals but it takes little effort to get over fences.
They have very long legs.
Saw a moose being hit by a car 10 years back, the body went thru the windshield with next to no damage to the front of the vehicle. 
Here is a typical comparison.
Same with camels when I was in Oman. Driving through the desert at night was always a challenge.

In the fall, they eat: dead flowers, mountain ash, apple trees, neighbourhood shrubs,
by late winter they are down to poplar trees and digging for grasses. -
Glad they haven’t discovered the Green compost bins. Yet.
