Depth sensor project help

Hello,

I've been trying to design a depth sensor unit using the MS5803-14BA and an arduino uno.

I was thinking of converting USB data to Ethernet in the unit under the water and sending the data up an Ethernet cable.

I have added an attachment of a block diagram of how i would do this..

I'm not sure if this would work? if not any suggestions on how i could get data from the arduino/sensor unit under water to the surface PC?

Thankyou for any suggestions

There is no need for the USB/ethernet adapter. Ethernet cable could be used for both power and low speed serial data, or high speed balanced serial (RS485) data.

The arduino doesn't have an Ethernet port so i would need to convert the USB-Ethernet adapter i think but not to sure whether that would work.

If the depth sensor is for open water, all you need is a weight and a string. The pressure is linearly proportional to the length of the string.

Presumably you're considering this because you want a cable length longer than allowed by USB (~5 meters) but within the ethernet limit (~100 meters)?

I don't think the UNO supports USB host mode, so a typical USB to Ethernet dongle wouldn't work.

You could go with an Ethernet shield and skip USB altogether.
