Depth transducer

Hi

I am looking into the possibility of connecting a marine depth transducer to an arduino to use as a datalogger along with a GPS. I have a fairly tight budget, so wondered if anyone has used this Nasa 150kHz Depth Transducer | Force 4 Chandlery with an arduino.

Have you any details of the data format, voltage etc that this device outputs ?

That is a great price, if the transducer is self contained, that is includes the high voltage driver, microprocessor and a serial output that could be interfaced with Arduino.

The Nasa Clipper depth sounder manual sheds no light on these questions.

Without that information, the system would need to be reverse engineered to determine its suitability for Arduino.

There do exist such self contained, serial output depth transducers that can easily be interfaced with Arduino (usually NMEA/RS232 or /RS422), but expect to pay many times that price.
