DF Player + PAM8403 mini amp

hello everyone, i am using the DFPlayer mp3 player with Arduino since some years and i find it very reliable.

For some project i use it linked to a 3w stereo mini amp, a PAM8403 IC, and works fine especially with a 5w speaker.

Now i have a doubt. I always connected the SPEAKER audio out to the audio IN of the amplifier but i read on datasheet that DF Player supports a stereo DAC outputs to drive headphones and amplifier.

I tested the DAC out and the audio performed by the amplifier is not so loud as connected to SPEAKER out..

I read on PAM 8403 that "It should not make the input signal too high,which will cause the clipping of output signal when increasing the volume. Because the digital volume control of the PAM8403 has big gain, it will make the device damaged."

Since i don't hear clipping sounds i should think it is not wrong to connect to DF Player speaker out.... or yes?

That should be true.

They both run from 5V. But, the amplifier output is bridged so you can get 10V peak-to-peak and you could get that (approximately) with a gain of 2 (+6dB). The DF player also has a bridged speaker output so I don't know if one can put-out more power than the other. Your PAM board is stereo so with a 2nd speaker you would get twice the power (+3dB).

Since i don't hear clipping sounds

[u]Clipping[/u] is normal-everyday distortion and with the DFPlayer's volume turned-up (and a "normal" sound file) I'd assume you can clip the PAM amplifier from the DAC output. It will be louder when driven into distortion.

The DFPlayer's built-in amplifier may be "calibrated" so it doesn't clip at maximum volume. i.e. You usually can't clip the output from a laptop/soundcard or phone unless you use EQ (or something) to amplify the digital data, then you're actually clipping the DAC before you clip the amplifier.
