Anyone have any idea how to use the U Disk on a DFplayer mini MP3 player? Is it useable MP3 storage? No documentation seems to be available.
I do not know the answer.

I have a DFPlayer but I haven’t tried using the U Disk feature yet. I do know it has 2 pins for usb, so I would assume if you wired your own usb cable to those data lines, it “should” be recognized as a usb device.
And if but some miracle your computer does recognize it, you should just be able to treat it like a normal usb storage.
If you do get this to work, perhaps you can document it and post it.
I've often wondered about that too. I'm not even sure what 'U disk' means in this context? My obvious interpretation is 'Uses a USB stick as an alternative to the micro SD card'.
But how? I assume no specialist cable exists that slips into the module's card slot at one end and holds a USB stick at the other? (Physically impossible?) And no high speed storage tucked away, like the 128 MB of the Pro version (DFRO768), that you download with Arduino connected to PC?
Someone, somewhere, probably in China, must surely have used the feature? But darned if my hour's googling can find him or her.
If I get some time I'll strip a USB cable at the Arduino end and solder on some (4?) Dupont wires to experiment. Perhaps two should go to the module's DM and DP pins and the others to +5V and 0V?
DFPlayer has USB pins, D+ and D-, VCC, and GND.
add an USB B socket to those pins, connect it to PC using USB printer cable, and then you can access micro SD card (which is inserted into DFPlayer microSD socket) from your PC
add an USB A socket to those pins, insert U disk to it, and the DFPlayer can access the U disk contents and play MP3 tracks from it.
but beware, i found that DFPlayer which have text "v3.0" on top side, the USB features is not working.
Thanks so much - curiosity quenched!
For those (not V 3.0) modules that you've used, have you found it useful in practice?
welcome
i have using hundreds of DFPlayer until now, only a few have defects from fabrication such as short circuited and not properly soldered. it is very useful.
if your DFplayer is inside a case, then you can add USB B socket (to connect it to PC) or USB A socket (to insert a U-disk) so you dont have to open the case.
one more thing: check the main IC. if it has 24 pins, it is ok. if it has only 16 pins, the UART feature is not working
