I am working on a project which requires me to design my own shield for the arduino uno I have and would like to know what the distance is between the digital pin header and the analog/power header on the other side the board.

Install the free version of Eagle, and load the Eagle layout files that you can find on the Arduino product pages.
All you have to do is to delete (Ripup) everything that you don't need.
Then you have a blank slate to add whatever you want.

Really. Look on the freaking Arduino site, you have links to it even in the forum! Every last board design is there, Open Source.
If you REALLY want to know something already easily available, would you really just cry out and WAIT to be served?
If you don't do the easy things, you won't get as much help on the real things.
