If there is an existing thread, can someone direct me to it? If not, does anyone know if it is possible to convert an ethernet switch to support POE injection? I've seen many of the YouTube tutorials and other instructibles involving splicing open the Cat5 wire and soldering the wall wart to one end and the barrel jack to the other end, however, I am looking for something cleaner if that is possible.
What I'd like to do is solder jumper wires onto the power pins where my switch receives it's 12v supply and solder the other ends of the jumpers to the appropriate RJ45 unused wires to carry the 12v through the cat5 to my arduino ethernet shield. On the Arduino side, I'd like to then solder jumper wires to the appropriate RJ45 pins and route them back to the barrel jack pins via the soldered jumpers.
Granted I would first need to ensure how much power the switch consumes to determine if there would be enough left to power the Arduino, I just wanted to know if this was even possible?
