Most keypads are membranes. Those are the cheapest. Here are some alternatives:
Membrane keypad for reference:
Don't forget you can wire it yourself, a keypad is just a matrix of switches. 12 switches at 4 cents each is 48 cents plus whatever the wire costs you.
Yes. That is, if the membrane and the keypad use the same pin arrangement.
Most keypads / keyboards operate on a matrix layout - rows & columns. Whether it's a keypad, membrane, array of buttons, etc.
It would help if we knew what this keypad of yours is, and what you would like to replace it with.
As it is, the question is akin to:
I have a piece of cheese. Does it taste like this other piece of cheese?
i.e., completely meaningless.
However, if you'd said:
I have a piece of 3 year old Gorgonzola. Does it taste like 2 year old Camembert?
then it would be possible to give a proper answer.
i want to replace it for something thinner or smaller in general but with the same buttons arrangement :.
something like this Membrane 3x4 Matrix Keypad + extras [3x4] : ID 419 : $3.95 : Adafruit Industries, Unique & fun DIY electronics and kits
Yes, that is basically the same as the thin membrane kepyads you can get. You notice it will have the same number of pins (8) for a 4x4 matrix
Thanks a lot!!
However, I wouldn't pay that much for a keypad. It's getting on for a good 50% over the normal asking price.
