Artificial sweetener, oh no. Ah well you won't get constipated.
How hard would it be to freeze the top section of the topic pages? That is, in the graphic below, the material above the yellow highlight. Keeping this visible would make it easier to click to a different section - made in the area above the magenta highlight. As it is if I scroll down looking for interesting threads the selection boxes scroll off-screen. This can be a nuisance when one needs to scroll or <Home> back to the top to go to the next subject.
I see the topic links in emails are now much easier to find if there are many replies. Thanks!
Hi,
I find when looking at long threads, trying to remember/identify the originator/author of the thread.
It would be nice if something like Facebook approach to this was thought about;

Freezing the top part's a great idea
Freezing the top part eats up real estate that might be better used for content on small screens.
More Responsive web design and some user préfère would go a long way.
It's been a while so I may be mis-remembering a feature that the old forum had - a list of topics I have commented in. On occasion, I get curious about what happened to a thread that's gone quiet or I read the last activity some hours ago and now it's way down the general list of topics and I can't find it to add something that's only just occurred to me.
The closest thing to it is my list of posts in my profile, but that's poisoned by the fact that I have made many posts in many topics, so it's a bit of a full table scan to find what I'm looking for.
I tend to look in 'activity' and find the topic.
What about six of these ones ? (video-surrounding
)
(no, it's not mine, i still have not winned national lottery
)
EDIT: by the way, imagine this script on that monitor, about space wasting
)
yeah i have a friend who has something like that (well not quite that extreme) and when he opens FB there is just this thread in the middle of the screen and his contacts on the side.
Under what circumstances did you see that ?
Summary
My code
Line 2
In case it was not obvious:

You can get it via the
> Hide Details menu in the post composer toolbar.
The bbcode-style markup:
[details="Summary text"]
This text will be hidden
[/details]
or you might prefer taking a more standardized approach by using HTML:
<details>
<summary>Summary text</summary>
This text will be hidden
</details>
I find it useful when posting bug reports on GitHub which contain large quantities of text that might provide important details for the investigation, but would only cause a lot of scrolling for someone doing a quick scan of the report. It's probably less useful for that use case here on Discourse because the code blocks have a limited length (code blocks don't get vertical scroll bars on GitHub, no matter how long they are).
discobot advertises it like this in the "advanced" tutorial offered via PM to users when they reach Trust Level 2 (on demand by writing @discobot start advanced tutorial):
Here is what the forum displays at the bottom of the page:
What are the criteria used to think that the proposals might interest me?
I think they are wrong: nothing of the list interests me.
The worst: the proposed messages are rarely in the language of consultation of the forum.
When I go to the French-speaking part of the forum, it's to get messages in French.
If I want messages in English I go to the general part
If I want messages in German I go to the German part
If I want messages in Spanish I go to the Spanish part
....
I would agree with your point entirely.
It does seem to offer posts quite arbitrarily for that.
Maybe they could be turned OFF ?
@pert
Perhaps so many poorly titled posts (on the parts of others) along with English being the default language of the software is causing an issue?
The forum is some help with that in the following manners.
Requires a minimum length title.
Warns if the title has already been used or is similar to existing topics.
Occasionally will NOT let you post until the title does not conflict.
That in itself is a great improvement over the previous software.
Very cool.
I've edited a few titles to remove extended salutations and other nonsense, but I usually ask the user to do it first. Still waiting for one to actually do it though.
The other issue is language localization, which applies to the messages in the forum software, but not to the posts. It would be idea to select a language and have every post translated to that language when you view them. Google has easy integration of language localization and translation. I've used it into every Android app that I've ever developed.
Here is an explanation of the default behaviour of Suggested Topics from @dax1 from another topic
Here is the default behaviour of the Suggested Topics list:
The Suggested Topics list will show any unread topics that you are
watchingortrackingthat are less than 90 days old. If there are fewer than 5 unread topics in the list, random topics that are less than 365 days old will be appended to the list. The Suggested Topics list first tries to load topics from the same category as the topic you are currently reading. If there are less than 5 topics from the category that can be added to the list, topics from other categories will be chosen.Admins can control the behaviour of the Suggested Topics list with the following site settings:
suggested topics- the number of topics to show in the list (defaults to 5)limit suggested to category- instead of prioritizing the current category, only show topics from the current category in the list (defaults to false)suggested topics unread max days old- the maximum age in days to query for unread suggested topics for a user (defaults to 90 days)suggested topics max days old- the maximum age in days to query for random suggested topics (defaults to 365 days)A common use of the Suggested Topics list is to use it to browse a forum for unread content.
At the time of original posting (May 2021), the options were set to the defaults and no changes have been made as far as I am aware
