Driver problem Code 10 !?

I istalled the new Arduino 1.6.0 which seems good but I have a problem with the driver.

" Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.

Arduino Uno

This device cannot start ( Code 10 ) "

I have a new HP 250 G3 PC with Windows 8.1 and Arduino Uno R3.

What does this mean ?

Thank you Budvar10,
If I use the Microsoft driver everything looks okay except that uploading the sketch fails "avrdude:st500_getsync()..."
From this I conclude that the PC should be okay and the problem is between Windows and the Arduino driver. If that is the case I cannot do much, but why don't I see similar problems on these pages ?...
(For more background see Feb 02 " My PC does not find the Arduino Uno)

Incorrect port or driver. I don't know much about Win8, but I'm supposing the device should be visible in device manager with installed driver or not, similarly as in other Windows.

Is is similar problem?

There is only one COM port in the HP 250 G3 it cannot be the wrong port  but could that be the problem, ie. that there is only one COM !?
The link to a similar problem ends up in a blank page ??

Link is working now.

With the Arduino driver installed (advance over-ride) the Device Manager shows

Ports (COM & LPT)
! Arduino Uno (COM1) (with the small yellow traffic warning sign)

And then if I look under Properties it shows

" This device cannot start (Code 10) "

In the Arduino program/IDE under Tools I have

Tools
Board -> Arduino Uno
Ports <- Ports cannot be opened, unavailable !

Then if I go back to Device Manager and Roll back the previous driver. Ports now shows

Ports (COM & LPT)
Communications Port (COM1) (no warnings)

And in the Arduino program/IDE under Tools

Tools
Board -> Arduino Uno
Ports -> v COM1 <- Arduino IDE is communicating with the Microsoft driver !

So my conclusion is that the problem is between Win 8.1 and the Arduino driver.
It is not very likely that the OS is corrupted, virus infection or confused by old age & tear and wear, because my PC is new and it is not normally connected to the internet.
I think the problem is in Windows 8.1

Does anyone have a working Win 8.1 + Arduino Uno R3 environment ?

PC may not be infected by virus or malware even though to connect once into internet is enough. I think the reason can be incorrect driver installation, corrupted registry, etc. One of the solutions is to uninstall the driver and reinstall it.

Makew ensure your port being detected in device manager.

I have attached the driver here, download the driver, Through device manager manually install the driver using the driver location.

once driver install, make ensure port being detect with board name. Please share us screen shot of device manager after installing driver pack i shared.

if port detected in device manager & arduino IDE, even if getting error share us the screenshot of error msg you get.

drivers.zip (1.19 MB)

Thanks Budvar10 and AMPS-N.
I'm having a problem sending you the screen shots " Error ... entity too large " but let's try again.
Nope obviously it is larger than 1M.
Do you have a normal mailbox or any suggestions.

Create a smaller one or zip. My mailbox is in my profile but there is no sense to send it to a specific person. We want to share on forum.

How you taking screen shot it will not exceed 1mb .

open screeen -> choose printscreen option-> open paint-> ctrl+V to screenshot of printed screen. Save as jpeg instead of PNG .so your file will automatically reduce. Then ZIp all image together

AMPS-N, that is the problem. I could not make a normal screen shot like you described but have a photo in my iPad and I am not nerd enough to make a zip in my iPad.
I shall have another go at the screen shot before I give up.

which operating system using?? Where your Arduino Ide installed???

If its windows 7/8 you could easily take snap shot. ajit.nayak87@gmail.com send me the picture here

Third try. If this does not work I will email my photos.

yes it driver issue.have you unzip my driver folder & try to install driver manually. if worked fine ok. As per me it wont work.

I also recommend to download USB 2.0 driver for your motherboard.

if you have windows chipset driver re install using recommended setting. The driver being older.

if you dont have CD then download driver pack solution. it automatically update driver.

Installed the new IDE 1.6.4 but no change.

I completely agree with Sploddy's final Words in his post from May 23 (Drivers for Windows 8.1 64 bit)

" If the latest drivers have a genuine MS signed and approved certificate embodied, then why is Windows 8.1 rejecting them ? Are they contained in the latest IDE release ? If not why not and where are they ?"

For Windows 8 users it is a cold comfort that arduino drivers work fine with Win 7 and Win 10 ( Windows 10 is not available for normal users).

Ok - I can't see anything you have done that seems "wrong" (ok - one jab at ya - you bought an HP - seriously, their consumer stuff is crapola - :D).

Googling "arduino uno r3 windows 8.1 driver" brought up this interesting "solution" - you might try it (what've you have to lose?):

http://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=255590.0

Basically - rather than using the "official Arduino LLC driver" - you use one from another manufacturer (in this case, for a modem!) - that used the same drivers as the "official" one. With a bit of configuration and such, in theory (if this guy's video is legit) - it just "works".

Seems like a hack to me - but if it works, who cares, right?

How do you get Win10? I am running Win7 Ultimate. I heard there was a free upgrade for Windows users.

I found some links.

And look what I found!

gconlon:
After months of searching and trying Registry editing, Virtual Machines and other potential solution, what eventually worked for me was to install and old Vista version of the driver driver for Prolific USB to serial Driver.

Here's the source of my solution. Thankyou Andrew Nye: http://andrewnye.com/?p=136

If you wish to give the driver a go you can find the link for its download here :

Thanks to the guys that posted on that forum thread.

I don't know why or how it works, so I cannot provide support if it does not work for you.
