Duemilanove: Classic or Retro Update?

  • Leave as-is (do not replace with printed headers)
  • Customize a classic (add new printed headers)

I am torn between upgrading to new printed headers or leave a hard to find classic in its original pristene condition? Please help me decide.

I have upgraded the ATMEGA168 to a ...328 and added the a clear plastic holder. Both can be removed/replaced with little to no effort. Let me know your thoughts either way.

Hi @stievenart. Nice board!

Some things that might be of interest to the respondents:

Do you actively use the board, or is it only for a collector's item?

How are you desoldering skills?

I still have mine and occasionally use it. Other than the LED on D13 being directly driven, the FT232 interface and I2C only on A4 and A5 it can be used just like an UNO R3.

I use the board... and I do like the fact that it's a rare board.

My soldering and desoldering skills are good enough that it looks like it's from the manufacturer.

Leave as is. I do not think that printed headers add much.

You will also have to modify the header that has the SDA/SCL printed on it.

I just chop those off and file them down with some light sandpaper...

My thoughts exactly. There's only 25 pins or so; don't you have them memorized? (also, they're labeled on the PCB.)

Good point... I do have the pins memorized. :grimacing:
