I bought a PCB kit of the duemilanove on eBay here, cgi.ebay(dot com)/Arduino-Duemilanove-bare-PCB-Kits-/280492300875?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item414ea4da4b" i received the package and am getting ready to solder everything on. it didn't come with any directions and i was wondering where i could find out what the locations are for the different yellowish color surface mounts go, they are separated in the package but i just don't know where they go. I know where the 102 and 103 ones go by looking at photos but have no idea where the others go. can someone help me, i cant find anything on Google for it.
The small "yellowish" SMT components with no markings are the ceramic capacitors. You should have a set of two 22pF caps that get put on the PCB near the crystal, and a set of 9 100nF caps that go in all the other capacitor spots...
Adafruit has a nice higher-res picture that might be useful: http://www.adafruit.com/images/large/duemil328_LRG.jpg
so do the set of two caps goes above the crystal or to the right of it?
We'd don't sell or support a kit version of the Duemilanove. You should ask the person you bought the kit from for help.
I have sympathy for Mellis's position. The Freeduino suppliers don't expect the core Arduino team to provide board-specific technical support... The sale of "Arduino" Bare Boards is a new and not good development. On the other hand, I have some sympathy for the original poster as well; they expected a kit and got a collection of parts. The 22pf caps go "above" the crystal. Perhaps this will help?
Yea this really helps thanks! i did expect a kit rather than just a collection of parts so you were right about that too. Thanks all of you for your help.
