Try this:

  • File > Preferences[/li]
  • - Click the link at the line following "More preferences can be edited directly in the file". This will open the .arduino15 folder.*
  • - Delete all files except preferences.txt. Please be very careful when deleting things on your computer. When in doubt back up!*
  • [/list]*
  • Hopefully after that you will no longer encounter the error.*

hi there i did that, i researched it all day and that's one thing i did and it didn't help but thanks any other ideas? :frowning: also this is on Raspberry PI not Windows

Can you open this link in the browser on your Raspberry Pi?
https://downloads.arduino.cc/packages/package_index.json

yes i can i even installed ide 2 times no luck

Here are a couple other things you can try:

  • TEMPORARILY disable your antivirus software.
  • (In the Arduino IDE) Close the Boards Manager window if it's open.
  • Tools > Board > Boards Manager
  • Wait for the downloads to finish.
  • Re-enable your antivirus software immediately.

Did the error still occur when the antivirus was disabled? If not, you'll need to whitelist the appropriate folder, file, or process in your antivirus software's settings.

list type=decimal]

  • Connect to the Internet through a different network. If you're currently using the network at your work, try your home network. You can try connecting via the WiFi hotspot on your phone.
  • (In the Arduino IDE) Close the Boards Manager window if it's open.
  • Tools > Board > Boards Manager
  • Wait for the downloads to finish.

Does the "file signature verification failed" error still occur? If not, the issue may be caused by the firewall or other security restrictions on the original network.

ok i did all that again with no luck, is there a firewall on Raspberry Pi? from the Pi i can get to the link from a browser, if there is a firewall on Pi this could be the problem?

well! i uninstalled 1.8.11 reinstalled 1.8.10 all works fine! so i think it has to do with 1.8.11 any thoughts?

I can reproduce the bug and have submitted a bug report:

Thanks for reporting this @wd8tim!
