this is my code

#include <SPI.h>
#include <MFRC522.h>

#define RST_PIN 9
#define SS_PIN  10

MFRC522 mfrc522(SS_PIN, RST_PIN);

void setup() {
  Serial.begin(9600);
  while (!Serial);
  SPI.begin();
  mfrc522.PCD_Init();
  delay(4);
  mfrc522.PCD_DumpVersionToSerial();
  Serial.println(F("Scan PICC to see UID, SAK, type, and data blocks..."));
}

void loop() {
  if ( ! mfrc522.PICC_IsNewCardPresent()) {
    return;
  }

  if ( ! mfrc522.PICC_ReadCardSerial()) {
    return;
  }
  mfrc522.PICC_DumpToSerial(&(mfrc522.uid));
}

I didn't write this I was following a tutorial

This means that you have not chosen the correct type of Arduino from the tools menu.
What type of Arduino Nano do you have, there are seven types of Nano.

Also try and select the "old Boot loader" in the Tools menu.

Okey it works now

Great, which one solved the problem?
