avrdude done. Thank you.

Hi, I have an issue with my arduino, it keeps failing on upload with this error message. from other forums i have seen i have checked my pc, and swapped cables. From my device manager i can see the computer recognises and identifies the arduino as arduino usb port.

correct port etc is selected
the board doesnt seem to recognise when i press reset
I cant burn the bootloader
i just saw the loopback test Loop-Back Test Instructions
but it doesnt work for me

is there anything else i can do before admitting defeat?

Does the onboard LED blink when the board is reset?

Hi, no it doesnt the led doesnt come on
the on led is always on
and occasionally the rx led flickers when i try to upload a prg but not always (and there nothing connected to the pin 0 or 1)

Did it work before? If yes, what is the project that you were working on. Mistakes in anything with motors, relays etc can kill your board.

Does device manager say Arduino Uno ? or does it say CH340 ... or something else?

If your board has the CH340, the loopback test is non-conclusive.

If you did that without anything connected to the Arduino, it would indicate that the 328P processor has died. You can buy replacement chips for the DIP version (with bootloader if needed).

hey sterretje thanks for the advice, by the time i saw your post id already ordered a new board,

the Arduino is connected to a remote laser which will activate when the output is high, from looking into it a little more i think the laser required too much current (10ma for 24V) so just pulled what it could from the board and fried it??

yeah the port said arduino usb port
the chip is a megai6u2 so loop back should work
i didnt burn the bootloader bc i dont have a 2nd board
you might be right about the chip being fried though, when i have it plugged into my usb >2mins it becomes super hot, to the point that its hard to keep your finger on it

It should say "Arduino Uno (COM5) if it has the 16U2. Anything else is indicating problems.

Yeah it says exactly that, same comport and everything on the ARDUINO IDE
says 'Arduino Uno (COM 5)

You did already order another Uno. If you're interested in trying to fix the broken one, buy a 328P with bootloader and replace the faulty 328P. If no other damage to the board was done you have a spare.

Profile - sterretje - Arduino Forum yeah I will probably do that, thanks for the tip
