Fatal error- ESP32RET

Hi there, new guy, first post.
bear with me please

Ive got a Due that I'm looking to use as a CAN sniffer. Ive been dealing with EVTV a little.
I started updating the firmware-- tried to load ESP32RET, but I keep getting a "fatal error to ESP32- timed out waiting for packet header" message. verified com port. tried through the native port. i tried holding the reset button while hooking up...

ive got a CANdue v2.2 "teodora" board as well. not sure if that needs to be attached to the DUE while all this happens. tried reading through the manuals supplied, but they all seem to assume that I know more than I evidently do...
like i said, I am a total noob.

any help, much appreciated

You're talking Greek

Which firmware? ESP32RET would indicate to me that that is specific for ESP32 boards and has no business on a Due.

I tried to find your Candue board. If it's this one (EVTVDue Microcontroller – EVTV Motor Verks Store), I think that it's a stand-alone board that does not need to be connected to another microcontroller board.
And it does not use an ESP32.

I don't think that I can help much further.

@sterretje thanks for getting back to me!
my mistake-- its EVTV CANDue Version 2.2 Dual Channel CAN bus Shield for Arduino Due with the due board!

I got the ESP32RET package from SaavyCan, but its just as likely that they have just listed out a number of options, rather than requirements

old dog. new tricks

Please post a link to the shield. It might be CANKIT - CANbus kit with Microcontroller and Cable – EVTV Motor Verks Store; and user manual https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0607/9699/3689/files/CAN_Bus_Shield_for_Arduino_Due.pdf?v=1657905104.

I haven't figured out how that fits in; can you enlighten us. I did find GitHub - HugoPT78/ESP32RET_SavvyCAN: CAN Reverse engineering tool for ESP32 based boards (specifically EVTV ESP32Due) · GitHub and that seems to be for an ESP32 based board and not for a Due.
