However i cannot find any documentation on how to use it, any ideas?

That looks very much like an IR sensitive phototransistor
Try like this:

That may be a UV sensor made to detect combustion products, AKA "purple peeper".

Knut's link is good, but be aware that the IR phototransistor is also sensitive to visible light. You'll want to shield the sensor from sunlight, etc. as best you can.
