I took a long time to figure what the best, easiest (and most inexpensive - important) way is to create a large home automation project. I think I found the answer in wemos, blynk, the arduino IDE and cheap power converter units. So I wrote an instructable so others could learn from my research 
It pretty much explains the easiest and most cost efficient way of automating ac appliances with a simple and easy to make smartphone app. Everything is explained assuming limited tehcnical knowledge. Any feedback and improvemet tips would be greatly appreciated
