Green LED Does not Light Up

Hello.
I got problem with my OSEPP UNO R3 Plus. After month of using it, my Green LED("ON" LED) does not light up anymore, even though other LEDs L, TX, RX are working well.

I tried to power up with both USB and 9V Battery and also tried to RESET board via RESET button on board.

Please advise me what to do.
One solution I have is to get another Green LED and solder it into my board. One thing I am not aware is the PART NUMBER of GREEN(ON) LED.

I don't want to pay extra 30dollars to but a new board.
The thing is I can Buy a new board for 30bucks with all Good functioning LEDs.. The ritorical question is what I am gonna do with Old board which is still functioning well, but green LED does not come up? It's like tossing 30bucks in garbage bin for me.

So Please HELP!

you are mean to say power LED is not turning on. Have you checked when you connect 9v supply any IC getting heating up

Ic like LM358D & lp2985-33dBVR

. If you power through USB the LED will turn on or not

No, ICs don't Heat up. I checked all of them. I checked both via USB and 9V Battery.

use multimeter to test LED working or not. Choose diode mode, give forward voltage. Its simple way to test your LED working.

Thank You for tip, I will check it...

But one question. From my work experience, I know that thru-hole LEDs can have polarity and can have no polarity at all. But I am doubt about SMT LEDs. I mean if SMT LEDs have polarity. It is easy to check, But don't want to destroy my board at all by giving an impulse from Meter..

That is question for now.. if those SMT LEDs have polarity?

Truly speaking, I did never expected that LED on board will die so soon.. I believe You understand me and my concerns. I paid almost 70bucks for Arduino Starter KIT101 in mid of February, and on first day of march This green LED showed me middle finger.... And You know, I thought "What a heck?"... For me everything that is more than 50bucks is already meant to be expensive and must have a good quality.. 70bucks is way close 100bucks. I am kind of in frustration and disappointment level.. not much, but 70Dollars is still money which we are not able to pick up from ground level or pick up from a tree like fruit...

I hope to fix it by my self, But still need help...

Best Regards!

I think you must go through basic . I would like to know which LED using which is having no polarity???

we dont know what happened. What are device you have been connected. How you powered on your board. From where you purchase board. Is it really trusted vendor or not. If tested vendor it wont give LED failure .

You should also tell us which last experiment conducted on board. Like varying motor speed, power control etc. This major to blow your LED. As i said if you give forward voltage LED must me glow

I did not test yet. I will test later. Moved i Saskatoon on 26th of February and still looking for job here..
However, I have another info to share. I bought OSEPP™ 101 Arduino Basic Starter Kit(SKU: ARD-01) in RP Electronics.

I still have a receipt with me.
Date of Buying and time I don't remember.. It should be on receipt.

About shop. I have been buying lots of stuff from them and have Account with them since2010... But one problem is I forgot to tell cashier that I have account with them, when I was buying OSEPP™ 101 Arduino Basic Starter Kit(SKU: ARD-01). Somehow cashiers don't ask people if they have account with RP Electronics. How to use their account, I don't know.
It is only one shop in Vancouver, BC that I know. There are other shops in Vancouver like RP Electronics, but other shops don't have much equipment, components, parts, programmable kits and other stuff related to electronics.

What happened. Is next answer.
According to book provided and to information and code provided on website OSEPP - Tutorial 6: Using Buzzer to Play a Melody , after I finished typing code for sketch ( http://osepp.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/ARD101_Tutorial_Code.zip tutorial 6b and putting pitches from file provided PITCHES), I uploaded it to board through USB. Some how I mentioned that After RESETTING the board via RESET button that this GREEN LED("ON" LED) was blinking after resetting the board for a few times, then stopped to blink and was on. I disconnected the board from Laptop.. and then connected back.. but GREEN LED("ON" LED) did not light up. I asking my self If I was RESETTING to much via RESET BUTTON on board... Can it happen so or? I don't think it is problem with code written for tutorial 6b. Or another my thought is I was keeping board in ON state for more than 1hour...

Yes.. I will test this LED anyway and will give results.
By the way. I do have Certificate of Electronics Technician from BCIT(Burnaby, BC, Canada). I do know that diodes, LEDs and transistors have polarities. So I was studying for that. The one thing I told and it is true. I found that not all thru-hole LEDs have polarity. I found about that when I was working in Selcom Industries Inc. This type of LED is used for Power Distribution in Boiler System. You can trust me, since I was working in this Company recently.

If You remember You gave me this link http://arduino.cc/en/uploads/Main/arduino-uno-schematic.pdf ?
You can find this "GREEN ON" LED on right hand side.

"GND" goes to Cathode of "GREEN ON" LED. From Anode Of same LED there 2 resistors in parallel. And from these resistors there is way to +5V.

Best Regards.

first thing you must know how to use the forum

Use

//post your code here

[share link](http://share link)

As i said first take multimeter, Keep it in Diode mode. apply forward voltage test power LED /green Led working or not

We don't know how you used arduino board ; whether you connected any interface with device or not. Like you shared the link.

About vendor, There are lot of vendor make clone of arduino ; I found buying in ebay website gives problematic boards.like shorts in LED across power . some time you can find solderballs also . which cause for power failure sometime.

Hello again.

here is my code in attachment. and Pitches that have been used for this code.

So I checked GREEN ON LED. It does not light up. I checked other LEDs too, TX, RX, L LEDs are working properly.

By the way about vendor.. When I bought, I checked both sides for shorts and solder balls. None of it was presenting on board.

pitches.h (1.96 KB)

Here is the circuit diagram. go to attachment please.

I put both : circuit diagram and on breadboard too.

I am aware about BUZZER polarity. I used exact same color of wire jumpers.

I follow circuit in strict order.

Hello, again. Sorry, that I did not read how to use forum... Now I know how to use it. I was more concerned about GREEN ON LED on my OSEPP UNO R3 PLUS.
I know that I could use some words without capitals, but If is written so on my board, I write as it is...

Its very difficult to tell what exact problem is now.
The circuit & code seems working fine.

Have you checked the LED will on multimeter in diode mode

What if my board doesn't turn on (the green power LED doesn't light up)?

If you're using a Diecimila or older USB board (e.g. NG), make sure that the jumper (little plastic piece near the USB plug) is on the correct pins. If you're powering the board with an external power supply (plugged into the power plug), the jumper should be on the two pins closest to the power plug. If you're powering the board through the USB, the jumper should be on the two pins closest to the USB plug. This picture shows the arrangment for powering the board from the USB port.

i recommend upload code ; open serial monitor to check board is working fine or not. Send me error

void setup()
{
Serial.begin(9600);

}
void loop()
{
Serial.println("welcome");
delay(1000);
}

Have you checked the LED will on multimeter in diode mode

Yes, I did. I checked GREEN ON LED. No good result - does not light up.

I checked other LEDs too - they work properly, so I am pretty happy about it so far.

I will read material you sent me and check code tomorrow. and will give results..

I know, this question might seem to you as personal subject... Still I will ask.. Where do you live? Why I ask? Just to know at what time I need to check response from you... I live in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.

So what ever time is on your clock, mine is 11:03pm.. so I will do tomorrow all stuff you recommended to do for now.

I live in India.

if you share your teamviewer ID i could check some parts

Keep device connected ;share ID & password;

Here its 4:43 PM

it almost 10 hour difference,

Hello.

I have a new version of board - Arduino: OSEPP UNO R3 PLUS.

And link You gave, probably will not work, since it is new version of board and all ICs are soldered into board. No DIP socket ICs. All of them SMT/SMD....

there is link You gave me...
http://www.instructables.com/id/Arduino-Examples-2-Use-an-Arduino-as-a-FTDI-Progr/

if you share your teamviewer ID i could check some parts

But what the purpose of giving my ID to check parts?
The version of Arduino I use is 1.0.6.

So... let's do it through the Arduino Forum. I don't want to get viruses on my laptop0... Sorry about that..

Ok.. Here are results of code you gave me to test.

check it in attachment.

Sorry I don't' know what URL write into field when I want to use button "Insert an image". Sorry I don't have a snapshot tool to copy right into forum field where we write.

i think there is no problem in your board. Dont bother with LED. it seems code working fine.

You can enjoy the code.

I recommend dont waste your time figure out mistake at this stage. Just enjoy ur coding

If you wanna test green LED further

USe simple 7809 regulator IC

Input give 12v-36v DC
output 9V should given to VIN pin available on Board.If On your problem is sorted out.

You can see option availble while writing reply to msg

like similiy;bold ;italic;etc explore each option

when you click insert link option it allow you add link just paste your link.
similarly your output always must be in quotes
code will be code tags
i have attached image for reference

Hello!

I was pretty sure that board is working fine as other LEDs (L, TX, RX).

But still. If I gonna keep board in ON condition under any code for more than 1hour, can it happen that GREEN ON LED will stop working properly (I mean LED will die so fast)? it is first question

and second question is: If I have to RESET board for several/many times can GREEN ON LED die so fast?

Answer from your experience, please. I just wanna know how much reliable those LED must be.

And please one more thing.. Don't get mad/sad that I refused to give teamviewer ID... Recently I had problems with my laptop and had same problems before.... F//ng hackers making advertisements and put viruses in these adds... Once I did really got to change my hard disk and also change whole system on my PC few years ago... And it does not matter what Antivirus system people have... So from this time I just have wish to hang all hackers with rope on public.. One by one with note that "HE/SHE was a hacker"! Does not matter what level of hacker skills hackers had.

So anyway, Thank You for your tips... I still respect you and your help!

I worry only what is part# of this GREEN ON LED and if I will be able to find it...
Anyway.. Where can I get a parts list for Arduino OSEPP UNO R3 Plus?
