Have I bust it???

Hi..

I have started getting the dreaded..

avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00
avrdude: stk500_disable(): protocol error, expect=0x14, resp=0x51

I think this is my own fault I was connecting stuff together whilst it was running and may have shorted something as it just stopped running and when I connected it to PC and tried reloading the sketch back on I got the error above :frowning:

How can I test if I have bust the processor or the FTDI?? I don't have an oscilloscope.

Cheers

Daz

does the ftdi chip still show up when you plug it in?

if yes...

remove the Atmega chip

place a jumper between socket pins 2&3

open serial monitor, anything you send should appear in the window

Loop back test is easier done by just jumpering a wire from ground to reset pin and another jumper from shield pins 0 & 1.

yippee that works

I assume that means that the usb - serial - FTDI bit is still ok?? and that I possibly have a faulty ATMEGA chip??

other than buying another chip is there anyway I can now test the chip??

not unless you have additional hardware, like another arduino to swap chips with

(that I know of)

just for thoroughness check the 5v lines to make sure they are actually 5v

Thanks guys, I'll check that (when I find my meter) hopefully it's just that chip that's bust, so may buy another anyway, I guess you can't have too many.

hey...im new to this stuff...i get same error as dazziep...witwt conecting anithing to the board...i just loged her to the pc...a little yellow led flash...the one atached on board to pin 13....its this a problem or how can i reset it?making the same steps that dazziep had to?
