Help installing Uno drivers Windows 8

Hey everyone, this is the problem I'm having, whenever I plug in my Arduino Uno no driver installation notifications pop up on my screen, so how can I install it manually and where can I download the drivers?

The uno drivers are in the drivers folder in the arduino IDE folder.

But they are not signed and Windows 8 will not use the driver as it exists. The OP wanted a better answer.

Shame on you, zoomkat, for not reading and/or for showboating. The interwebs could use a lot less lame responses.

I will provide the OP with a link I found, which should do the trick.

Ok, so I understand up to the last step where I have to install the drivers, so how would one normally install the drivers, what do I have to do?

Unziping the arduino ide, pointing Windows to the inf files in the drivers folder from the device manager.

Alternativelly, you can use my modded installer: http://arduino.cc/forum/index.php/topic,118440.0.html that does all the setup automatically for you

Ok, I tried eried's installer and it said the drivers failed to install, is that solvable?

You need to follow the instructions that pops in the last version.

Can you just post the instructions in this thread, thanks I'd really appreciate it.

But why you said: "I understand up to the last step where I have to install the drivers, so how would one normally install the drivers, what do I have to do?"

If you are in the last step, then the installer can't fail. I integrated the instructions in the program, but there are plenty of information here in the forum.

I'm afraid there was a misunderstanding, my point of reference in that post wasn't about your approach, it was about the link vicvelcro posted?

The instructions are the same, it is just the final step. With my link: automated (final step only) and with original IDE: You have to follow the instructions

Alright, now you've confused me, what is the final step, because if it's the automated step, can you please tell me exactly how to do whatever it is I have to do in the automated final step, because I hope your answer is not running the installer cause it fails each and every time I run it? All I ask is that that you actually post step-by-step instructions this time?

Alright, so I just tried to install the INF driver file for my Uno from my Device Manager, and I received this error:
Windows found driver software for your device but encountered while attempting to install it.
Arduino UNO R3
The third-part does not contain digital signature information.
If you know the manufacturer for the device, you can visit the website and check the support section for driver software.

So how can I fix this?

This is my problem now. In the intervening year, had anyone solved this?
(64 bit Win 8.1)

Yes I have the same on a friends laptop. Can not install the drivers for UNO 3.

He has only USB 3.0 ports on the new laptop. No 2.0, so I think it's releated to old drivers not working with USB 3.0.

The steps should be similar for Windows 8.
