A PCB is not really a "prototype".
Since you already said electronics is not your area of expertise, a 'prototype' is usually a breadboarded
circuit in a solderless breadboard, but if the current is too much for a solderless breadboard, it is a hand wired and soldered point to point circuit on perfboard , such that components can be replaced as needed during the R&D phase. A PCB makes it next to impossible to make changes to the circuit. It can be done but it gets ugly.
