Sorry for posting here, but it#s out of frustration, why is the software forum grey'ed out? stopping me posting

Please post a link to the page where you see the greyed out forum section or a screenshot of how it looks on your PC
Creation of topics in root of the the "Software" category has been intentionally disabled because this is intended to be used only as a parent category for the specific subcategories. Creation of topics in those subcategories is enabled.
"Software" is far too generic to be a useful category on its own. @scarr999 please take a little time to browse through the available forum categories and then pick the one that is most appropriate for the subject matter you wish to post about.
By the way, the "Hardware" forum category you chose to ask for assistance for using the forum is absolutely wrong. The appropriate category would have been "Community > Website and Forum". I have moved your topic there for you.
