I am planning to purchase this Automatic robot kit and modify it into a lawn mower robot of this kind Automatic lawn mower. The modification includes:
-Body (chassis) into a bigger one
-Bigger wheels
-Replacement of all the driving motors included in the kit with 12v gear motors
-Replacement of solar panel in the kit with 12v output panel
-Replacement of battery with 12v rechargeable battery
-Addition of another motor for grass cutting purposes
Is it possible to use the same configuration and electronics circuits and components provided in kit and make the listed changes?
Welcome! interesting project. I am assuming this if for fun and not serious lawn cutting. How long does your string blade last, I would suspect 15 minutes give or take a bit. The kit should work, assuming you have enough in your tool box and have the needed skill set, this is not a simple project.
Won't changing power components from the ones that are designated to the kit to the ones that i am planning to replace with, which are of higher volts comparatively cause any problems in the electronics?
The issue i am facing with the ready made kit is that it is small and does not have cutter motor, increasing its size will make it heavier and I'm afraid the new larger wheels won't be rotated by the motors provided in the kit, hence higher rated motor. Any suggestions on the easier way to go about through it?
This is engineering 101. Determine what you are going to build, will it meet all requirements, do a FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis) on the design at this point. Do the design and acquire the components. I am assuming when you are acquiring the components you have determined what torque, voltage, wire size, etc that you will need. This is not a hack it together over a weekend project. Do not forget to go over all of the safety concerns and legal requirements before finishing the FMEA.
