A few days ago I received the gift of a broken HP InkJet printer. Naturally I stripped it down and robbed as many interesting parts as I could.
One part (or module) that caught my eye was a small motor and attached rotary encoder. The encoder itself is a 6 pin model marked Agilent 9966. Having searched online the only Agilent rotary encoders I can find datasheets for are the 9000 and 9100. These are only 5 pin models.
Does anyone have any experience with this particular part or knows where to dig up a datasheet? I could start plugging in pins at random and see what I get, but I suspect that path will lead to a fried part.

I did a search for optical encoder and got a bunch of different results. A few clicks later and I found a datasheet for a similar looking model from Agilent. No wonder I struggled finding an Agilent rotary encoder with 6 pins. I was looking for the wrong thing!
20 minutes later I had it working with my Arduino! (Using the Encoder library, if anyone is interested).
For posterity (and for anyone who may come across this thread in future) the data sheet for the Agilent AEDS-962X is what gave me the crucial pinout. I am wondering if Agilent use the same pinout across its optical range.
