hot rod door popper via bluetooth/arduino

Ok I need some advise. I want to operate door poppers on my hotrod using my android phone. I've never used these boards before and I'm pretty surprised at what can be done by seeing the projects that others have posted on the internet.

I purchased an arduino uno, a relay shield and a ble mini from red bear labs.

I managed to get it working using the BLE Controller app from red bear. The app allows me to turn the four relays on and off so i have had some success. However, I can't connect to the bluetooth mini using anything other than the BLE Controller app. My phone will not "pair" with the ble mini but it will using the app. Not sure if I need to change some programming on the mini or what.

I'd like to have bluetooth pairing with a pin code so that there would be at least a bit of security involved and be able to modify the buttons and whatnot on an app for the phone. As it is now, anyone that can figure out that they can load a free app off the play store would be able to get my doors open.

I was thinking that I might try a different bluetooth adapter for my set up. Any suggestions as to what I should use? Another thought is a gprs / gsm adapter that I could maybe send a text to open the door and have the added feature of gps tracking my truck in the event of a theft. Can it be done?
